Trump can bargain with Putin to quickly withdraw troops from Syria, pushing US-backed factions to death's door.

President Trump spoke to supporters on June 25.

US President Donald Trump will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland on July 16 to discuss a series of important issues.

President Trump reiterated the idea of withdrawing US forces from Syria during a private meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah at the White House earlier this week.

In March, Trump announced that the US would soon withdraw troops from Syria, just hours after the Pentagon emphasized the need for a military presence in the country.

President Trump seems to intend to raise this issue with his counterpart Putin in their meeting next month.

According to the above sources, Trump will let Russia assist Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s army in retaking the area along the border with Jordan, where the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels are in control.

The Syrian army is gathering forces to launch a major attack in this area to regain territory from the rebels.

According to military experts, without the support of the US air force, the FSA will quickly lose ground to the power of the Russian and Syrian air forces and is at risk of being completely wiped out after 6 years of fighting President Bashar.

By letting Russia help the Syrian army control the above area, President Trump said that he could quickly withdraw US troops if certain conditions were met.

The US president can also expect Russia to establish a buffer zone to limit fighting in northwest Syria, preventing Iranian-backed forces from entering the area.

However, even if Putin agrees to Trump’s proposal, there are still concerns about its ability to meet the goals set by Washington.

Trump’s desire to withdraw troops from Syria worries US-backed factions, especially the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
