The battle between two contemporary legends was fierce in the first two sets, before ending with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory for the defending champion.

Nadal maintained his winning record against Federer at Roland Garros.

In weather conditions with light rain and strong winds, Rafael Nadal saved a break point in the first game and increased his confidence.

Roger Federer’s groundstrokes were not decisive enough, showing that he was still afraid of his opponent playing on his favorite surface, and then he had to pay the price after his backhand error hit the ball into the net.

Increasing the pressure on his opponent with heavy and deep groundstrokes, Nadal won another service game from Federer.

Nadal closed out the first winning set after 51 minutes with a beautiful cross-court backhand winner, and it was also the eighth winner in the set for the second seed.

The strong wind blew red dust all over the court, forcing both players to spend more time before serving.

Federer won the first two games of the second set after a missed backhand shot from the Spaniard while leading 30-40.

Federer actively flooded the net to attack, but Nadal locked in with long groundstrokes and put the ball into empty spots on the court.

The second set ended with victory still belonging to the defending champion and the playing time was approximately the same as the first set.
