Messi demands a salary of 81 million USD to stay at Barca in the summer of 2020 2

Season salary of 81 million USD is one of Lionel Messi's demands when negotiating an extension with Barca in the summer of 2020.

As revealed by Spanish newspaper El Mundo on the evening of September 21, Messi’s proposal to renew with Barca includes a $10 million signing bonus and a private jet to bring his family back to Argentina for Christmas.

Messi wants a three-year contract until 2023, with an extension option.

Messi was disappointed after Barca lost 2-8 to Bayern in the quarterfinals of the Champions League on August 15, 2020.

After reducing his fixed salary for the 2020-2021 season by 20% because of Covid-19, Messi demanded an increase in season salary from 74 million USD to 81 million USD in the next two seasons, with an annual interest rate of 3%.

El Mundo obtained information about the claims from recovering emails between Jorge Messi, Messi’s father and representative, the 35-year-old player’s legal team and Barca leaders at the time, including President Josep

This is said to be the reason why Messi abandoned contract negotiations and publicly asked to leave the club.

In January 2021, El Mundo newspaper also revealed a contract worth 675 million USD that Messi signed with Barca in November 2017, valid until June 2021.

Messi’s annual salary is up to 167 million USD – much higher than the figure of 86 million USD that Football Leaks once revealed.

Messi’s lawyers plan to sue former President Bartomeu, acting President Carles Tusquets, CEO Oscar Grau, and two others.

Messi ended 20 years with Barca to join PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. Covid-19 and injuries limited his contribution, with six goals and 14 assists.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, PSG informed Messi that they are ready to offer a new contract until 2024. But the Argentina captain wants to wait until the end of the 2022 World Cup to consider the future.
