Health Minister: 'The Covid-19 war cannot end in the first half of the year' 4

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long warned that the Covid-19 war cannot end in the first 6 months of the year, testing is the key to controlling the epidemic.

`We assess that in the first quarter, disease prevention must be considered an urgent and central task, because the Covid war cannot end in the first 6 months of the year, or even the whole year of 2021,` Minister Long said.

According to Minister Long, this epidemic is complicated because the virus strain has an infection rate 70% higher than the old strain, leading to the discovery of many infections in a short time.

Commenting that `testing is the key to controlling the epidemic`, Minister Long requested localities to prepare testing plans with a larger number of samples, shorten the time to get results, increase testing productivity, and use more samples.

`If testing is slow, we will only chase the epidemic, not stop it. Meanwhile, this epidemic is very fast, the more we chase it, the more exhausted we become,` the Minister said.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Long in an online meeting of provinces and cities on anti-epidemic work, on the morning of February 19.

All staff must be trained in sampling, at households, and in quarantine areas.

Localities must not be subjective, because epidemics can occur anywhere.

`The goal is to completely isolate F1s and remove pathogens from the community to prevent the epidemic,` the Minister emphasized.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son affirmed that testing is an important task in epidemic areas.
