On May 25, the British Government approved a $5.2 billion takeover of Chelsea for a group of businessmen led by billionaire Todd Boehly, closing the Roman Abramovich era.

This information was confirmed by British Sports Minister Nadine Dorries on Twitter.

One day ago, the alliance group led by Boehly passed the test from the Premier League organizers.

After months of negotiations, Chelsea also completed the transfer process, when the Government legally guaranteed that Roman Abramovich – the Russian billionaire whose assets were frozen in the UK – would not receive a penny from the deal.

On May 6, Chelsea confirmed that the joint venture group headed by Boehly spent $3 billion to buy shares of Chelsea.

In addition, the new owners also pledged to invest an additional 2.2 billion USD for the `benefit of the club`.

Since Abramovich’s assets were frozen, Chelsea cannot participate in transfer work, including buying, selling or extending contracts with players.

According to Sky Sports, Boehly and Behdad Eghbali – co-founder of Clearlake Capital – are close friends and have a close working relationship.

Normally, a takeover of Chelsea is expected to take about nine months.
