Abramovich: 'Being at Chelsea is the honor of a lifetime' 2

On May 28, billionaire Roman Abramovich wrote an open letter saying goodbye to Chelsea fans, after selling the club to the new owner.

On the morning of May 28, London time, Chelsea confirmed that the agreement to sell the club had been signed the night before.

A few hours later, Abramovich posted an open letter on the Chelsea homepage to say goodbye to fans, ending nearly 20 years of association with the club.

Abramovich left Chelsea after 19 years of service, bringing this club to a position of power in English and European football.

`Over the past time, the club has made efforts to find the most suitable successor to lead Chelsea successfully in the next chapter,` the letter said.

Abramovich expressed his joy that the transition process has ended, and wished success to the new owners both on and off the field.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in the summer of 2003, for 140 million pounds (nearly 190 million USD).

On March 2, Abramovich decided to sell Chelsea due to public pressure from Russia-Ukraine tensions.

On May 6, Chelsea confirmed that the joint venture group headed by Boehly spent $3 billion to buy shares of Chelsea.
